Sayahdeen has no accounts and no adverts. It does not track you, and nothing you learn, pray or practise in it is sent anywhere.
Your location and your voice are used on your phone and never leave it. The only thing the app ever sends is a message you type and choose to send, and that is deleted after fourteen days.
There is no account
You do not sign in. You are never asked for a name, an email address or a phone number. Nothing you do in the app is tied to you, because there is nothing to tie it to.
This matters for a particular reader. Some people using this app have not told their family they are Muslim. The app is built so that it holds nothing about them that could be handed to anyone.
What stays on your phone
Everything you do in the app is written on the phone itself. That includes the city you picked, which lessons you have opened, your reminder settings, and any progress the app keeps.
None of it is sent to us. We cannot see it, and we have no server holding it. Deleting the app removes it.
One thing the app cannot promise. A backup or a phone-to-phone transfer can include what any app keeps. On Android, Sayahdeen turns off cloud backup for its own data. On an iPhone, your own backup settings decide, and the app cannot override them.
Your location
Prayer times and the qibla are worked out from where you are. If you allow it, the app reads your location while you are using it, calculates on the phone, and stores the result on the phone.
Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no request that carries it. You can also skip location entirely and pick a city from a list instead, and what you type into that list is not sent anywhere either.
The app never reads your location in the background.
The microphone
Recite with me listens while you recite, so the words can light up as you say them. The listening happens entirely on your phone, using a model downloaded to it.
Nothing you say is recorded, saved or sent. There is no audio file, and no part of your voice leaves the phone. The microphone is used only while that screen is open and you have started it.
When the app goes online
The app is built to work with no signal, because people pray in basements and on planes. It makes four kinds of request, and no others.
Checking for an app update
Every time the app opens. The update service sees your internet address, your platform, and which version you are running, plus a random number that stands for this copy of the app. That number is made on your phone and is not a name or an advertising identifier.
Playing Quran recitation
When you play a recitation that is not already on the phone. The audio host sees your internet address and which reciter, surah and verse was asked for.
Downloading the listening model
Once, the first time you use Recite with me. The file host sees your internet address and that the file was requested.
A message you choose to send
Only when you write something and press send. Described in full below.
Those services see an internet address because every download does. We do not receive any of it, and none of those requests carries your location, your voice, your progress or anything you have written.
What you choose to send us
If the app cannot answer something you were looking for, it offers to let you tell us. Nothing is sent unless you write a message and press send.
When you do, three things are sent and nothing else: the text you wrote, the language the app is set to, and the app's version number. No name, no account, no identifier, no location, and no time of day.
The message is stored for fourteen days and then deleted automatically. Your internet address is used only to limit how many messages can arrive at once, and is never written down or stored with your message. A person reads these to find out what the app is missing, and what you write may be used to improve it.
Because a message carries nothing that identifies you, we cannot find yours again to delete it on request. Please do not write anything you would not want read by someone who does not know who you are. The app says the same thing on that screen, above the box.
No analytics, no adverts, no tracking
The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Nothing measures what you look at or how long you stay.
Sayahdeen is free. It is not sold, it carries no adverts, and nothing in it is or will be sold to anyone. We do not sell or share personal information, because we do not hold any.
This website
This site is a few plain pages. It sets no cookies, runs no scripts, and loads nothing from anyone else.
It is hosted by Cloudflare, who see the internet address of each visit as part of delivering the page, the way any web host does. We have no analytics on it and collect nothing from your visit.
Children
Sayahdeen is written for adults and older teenagers learning to pray. It is not directed at children under 13, and it collects nothing from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If the app's behaviour changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too. This policy is written from the app's actual code rather than from intentions, and it is checked against that code whenever either one moves.
